The Studio

Art shaped by faith, material and quiet intention.

Zyra By Zunaira is a California-based contemporary Islamic art studio creating dimensional work for thoughtfully designed spaces.

Zyra By Zunaira

Zunaira

A personal studio with a contemporary point of view.

Zyra began with a simple belief: sacred words can be expressed in a way that feels deeply meaningful and entirely at home in a modern interior. The studio creates artwork that is spiritually resonant without feeling visually heavy—pieces with presence, restraint and lasting beauty.

The Story

Created from a love of faith and beautiful spaces.

I created Zyra to bring together two parts of my world: the spiritual meaning of Islamic calligraphy and my love for refined contemporary design.

I wanted artwork that could hold its own in thoughtfully designed homes—work that felt elevated, architectural and calm, while still carrying the warmth and remembrance of the words themselves.

Each piece is developed in my California studio, where I explore scale, proportion, texture, mirror, wood and layered finishes until the composition feels balanced and complete.

Design Philosophy

Meaning first. Beauty without excess.

At Zyra, calligraphy is not treated as ornament added to a surface. It is the composition. The rhythm of the letters, the spaces between them, the relationship between depth and shadow—all are considered as carefully as the words themselves.

The result is work that feels quiet rather than crowded, modern rather than trend-led, and meaningful without sacrificing visual sophistication.

Detailed view of the Zyra creative and making process

The Creative Process

From intention to finished form.

01

Intention

The work begins with the words, their meaning and the feeling the finished piece should bring into a space.

02

Proportion

Calligraphy, scale and negative space are refined so the composition feels calm and architecturally resolved.

03

Material

Wood, mirror, canvas and dimensional layers are selected for depth, reflectivity, texture and visual integrity.

04

Finish

Each element is cut, assembled, painted and inspected by hand before the artwork leaves the studio.

Materials & Light

Chosen for depth, shadow and quiet luminosity.

Materials are selected not only for how they look, but for how they respond to the room. Dimensional wood creates shadow. Beveled and bronze mirror gather light. Tonal finishes soften the work into the architecture around it.

Craftsmanship

Made slowly enough to notice every detail.

From the clarity of each cut edge to the consistency of a finish and the final alignment of every element, the work is handled with care throughout the making process. This attention gives each piece the polish of a designed object and the individuality of something made by hand.

A Contemporary Expression

“My hope is that each piece brings beauty to the room and a gentle reminder of faith to the people who live within it.”
